We noticed several survey comments about trails and wanted to share a bit of context, as not all trails in the neighbourhood are managed in the same way.
Trails located within the Greenbelt are managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), not the City of Ottawa. We’ve recently met with NCC community partners to better understand how trail management works in these areas.
Many commonly used paths within the Greenbelt are informal and not part of the official NCC trail network. Only designated NCC trails are maintained, in line with the NCC’s environmental protection mandate.
For reference, official NCC trail information can be found here:
- NCC trail map (walking and hiking): https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/trail-map?activity=Walking_Hiking
- Capital Pathway network (multi-use): https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/capital-pathway

Separately, we continue to look into appropriate ways to care for and maintain City-managed trails and green spaces, working with the right partners, including the City of Ottawa and the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
This input will be reflected in the What We Heard summary as we continue listening and learning.
